PRESS RELEASE
New Women New Yorkers, a Startup Nonprofit Empowering Young Women Immigrants in New York City, Celebrates the Launch of its First Program
February 2015 (New York, NY) – We are happy and excited to announce our Launch Party to introduce and celebrate the beginning of LEAD, a unique 3-month skills training and leadership development program for young women immigrants between the ages of 16 and 24. We are partnering with Atlas: DIY, a cooperative empowerment center for undocumented youth, to run the program at Atlas’ space in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
New Women New Yorkers Launch Party will take place at the Centre for Social Innovation (601 W 26th Street, Suite #325, New York) on Saturday, March 14, from 7 to 10pm. At a price of $35, guests will enjoy drinks, delicious appetizers, and sweet treats. We are proudly sponsored by AVIV 613 Vodka, Bronx Brewery, Centre for Social Innovation, Hot Bread Kitchen, Levain Bakery, Motorino, and T. Edward Wines. The event will feature keynote addresses by NWNY’s founder and a guest speaker, and DJ Taela Naomi and standup comedian Tom Grossi will keep the party going. Guests will also have the opportunity to bid on our silent auction, featuring fabulous items from Sleep No More, STOMP, BAM, Dance Theater of Harlem, New York Football Giants, GLAMSQUAD, Body by Brooklyn, Widow Jane, and more.
As a young organization, we are seeking ways in which we can build and fund New Women New Yorkers to make it as effective and as true to our vision as possible. After a successful crowdfunding campaign at the end of 2014, we are looking to introduce our organization and programming to key stakeholders in our community. “Young women immigrants can be key contributors to their family and children, to their community, and to New York City, if only we give them the opportunity and tools they need to develop and reach their potential and aspirations – we will come together to share, support, and celebrate this vision,” Arielle Kandel, Founder and CEO of New Women New Yorkers.
