Presenting our LEAD Program for young women immigrants!

We’re very excited to launch in February our very first program for young women immigrants, the LEAD Program, in partnership with Atlas: DIY

IMPORTANT: We’re starting the 1st session of the LEAD Program on February 18! Workshops will take place every Wednesday from 4:30pm to 7pm through May.

The LEAD Program run in partnership with Atlas: DIY is a 3-month skills training and leadership development program for young women immigrants between the ages of 16 and 24. Workshops of 3 hours take place once a week and are taught by experienced members of NWNY’s staff as well as guest speakers, many of whom are women immigrants or children of immigrants. In addition to attending workshops, participants practice learned skills through individual and group assignments and activities, and completion of a final project. The last session of the program consists in a full-day field visit to several firms and nonprofits in New York City, giving the opportunity to students to meet and discuss with women leaders and professionals.

NWNY is partnering with Atlas: DIY, a cooperative empowerment center for young undocumented immigrants founded by Lauren Burke, to run the program at Atlas’ space in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.

Key goals

Puzzle

Registration in the LEAD Program is open to any young woman immigrant between the ages of 16 and 24 who has at least a basic level in English, as all workshops will be primarily held in this language. There is a limit of 20 participants per session, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Participants must be able to commit to participating in the program from beginning to end: full attendance of workshops is key to success. There are no other prerequisites for participating in the program, and participation in the program is completely free.

We’re currently raising funding for the LEAD Program – click here to donate!

Our staff still works on a completely volunteer basis, and we urgently need funds to purchase laptops for use by program participants, to offer stipends to low-income students, and to cover other operational costs.  All donations are tax deductible, as we are a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Don’t hesitate one more second and donate today, even a small donation can make a difference!

You can also support New Women New Yorkers by doing your shopping online through our fundraising page – a small percentage of your purchases will be redirected to our cause, without this costing you anything extra!

Last but not least, we count on you to spread the word about the LEAD Program by sharing this post in your social networks, with your relatives, friends, and colleagues, so that we can garner even more support and donations!
