NWNY Update on Covid-2019
We started to hold our programs remotely and we are as committed as ever to continue building a supportive community. We also invite you to stay connected online — please keep an eye on our social media and our blog for more updates
In response to the situation regarding the novel coronavirus (COVID-2019) and so as to ensure the health and safety of our community, we regret to inform you that we have decided to suspend all in-person programs offered by New Women New Yorkers until further notice.
This includes all LEAD workshops at our three current locations (Brooklyn Central Library, Chatham Square, and Queens Library at Jackson Heights), as well as our company sessions, in-person career counseling services, and community programming.
We’ve already begun to hold workshops and other programs remotely using Zoom video conferencing. Obviously, going remote is a significant change for everyone and presents a number of challenges. New Women New Yorkers offers in-person programming for good reason: We believe it is integral to providing high-quality, interactive training and to building a strong community for our participants’ well-being and success.
However, health and safety remain our number one concern and we want to take precautionary measures. We hope to resume in-person learning as soon as possible.
We are as committed as ever to provide support to our participants, especially as this situation is likely to have repercussions on the labor market for some time, making the transition to the workforce even more arduous for the immigrant women we serve, and increasing social isolation and the vulnerability of the most marginalized among them.
In addition to offering programs remotely, we will think about news ways to continue building a supportive community in this new context, and to provide access to critical information and resources to help our participants secure meaningful employment in the new job market.
You can donate to support our ability to provide increased online programming to our participants and community.
You can also share your stories about navigating the outbreak: how are you coping with stress, social distancing or self-isolation? How the pandemic is affecting your short and mid-term goals, whether is looking for a job or going back to studies? Reach out to bruna@nywomenimmigrants.org to share your thoughts.
We hope you’re taking care of yourselves in these difficult times, and we thank you for your continued help and support in our efforts to fostering a safe, healthy, and supportive learning environment and community.
In solidarity,
Arielle Kandel
