Empowering Communities to Thrive: An Interview with RiseBoro Community Partnership

In this interview, Carissa Small, Recruiter at RiseBoro, shares insights about the organization’s mission, its commitment to diversity and inclusion, and the opportunities it offers to empower individuals and communities.

Can you tell us a bit about your organization and its mission?

Our vision at RiseBoro is to create a New York City that takes those who just survive and empowers them to thrive. Our homeless will be housed. Seniors will age with dignity and joy. Students of all ages will achieve their full potential. Healthy living will replace healthcare as the path to disease prevention. Diversity will be celebrated and equity demanded. New Yorkers will believe that a better future is inevitable.

How does your organization support diversity and inclusion, particularly in hiring immigrant women and other underrepresented groups?

Since 1973, we’ve offered services designed to support every generation and meet the needs of communities. Our unique model of holistic community revitalization works by developing neighborhood assets, like affordable housing, to create the foundation for a more vibrant and diverse community. We build upon this foundation with programs designed to connect people to resources to help everyone in the community thrive, especially our most vulnerable populations.

What types of roles or career paths does your company offer?

How does your company invest in the professional growth of its employees? Are there specific training or development programs you offer that help employees advance in their careers?

Riseboro participates in cultural highlights each month to raise awareness for various communities. Our Social work program and empowerment division help with things such as financial literacy. We also have a Next Steps program that offers mentorship opportunities.

Why do you find value in partnering with New Women New Yorkers? What do you hope to achieve through this partnership?

RiseBoro is redefining New York City for New Yorkers. We do this working hand in hand with our partners, fellow nonprofits, government officials, and the people living in our communities. In partnering with New Women New Yorkers, we are able to aid in their mission to empower immigrant women to obtain meaningful employment, build community, and share their stories.
