A look back at 2017 programs, from LEAD to live storytelling
New Women New Yorkers’ LEAD and LEAD for New Moms series are held at New York Public Library branches in Manhattan and the Bronx. These free programs empower young immigrant women to find their first fulfilling, paying jobs in their desired field, attain self-sufficiency, and become agents of change. Building community and encouraging lasting friendships among participants is just as crucial to the programs’ success. Along with workforce development sessions like resume workshops, mock interviews, and field visits to potential employers like Google, participants have access to year-round events and activities with New Women New Yorkers, such as self-defense classes in Central Park, live storytelling sessions with The Moth, and an annual photography exhibit, Real People. Real Lives.

As we celebrate our third year serving young immigrant women in New York city, we’ve launched a crowdfunding campaign in support of our vision, Empowering Immigrant Women, ongoing through December. Join our fundraising drive to support this campaign and show that you believe in the potential of every young immigrant woman to contribute to our city!
